What officials say is causing illnesses
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), along with state and local partners, are investigating a multistate outbreak of Salmonella Typhimurium infections linked to Live it Up-brand Super Greens dietary supplement powder. The FDA’s outbreak notice identifies affected products as Live it Up-brand Super Greens powder with expiration dates ranging from 08/2026 to 01/2028, including original and wild berry flavors.
The CDC’s investigation update, dated January 14, 2026, reports 45 illnesses across 21 states and notes that epidemiologic evidence suggests the product may be contaminated and making people sick. Reported illness onset dates ranged from August 22, 2025, to December 30, 2025, and officials say there have been hospitalizations, with no deaths reported in the update.
Recall and consumer guidance
FDA states that it recommended the firm recall the product and that the company agreed to initiate a voluntary recall on January 14, 2026. The agency advises consumers and retailers not to eat, sell, or serve the identified products, and instead dispose of them or return them to the place of purchase. Because powdered products can spread contamination through dust or residue, FDA also recommends cleaning and sanitizing any surfaces or containers the product touched.
Symptoms and who is at higher risk
Salmonella infection typically causes diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps, and symptoms often begin within 12 to 72 hours after exposure, according to FDA’s outbreak page. Young children, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems are more likely to experience severe illness.
