The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) issued an alert urging countries to prepare for the simultaneous circulation of seasonal influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), warning that overlapping waves can strain hospitals during winter.

PAHO said influenza activity has been increasing since October 2025, with A(H3N2) predominating in several places, while RSV circulation is also trending upward.

The agency recommended strengthening integrated respiratory-virus surveillance, adjusting health-service response plans, and prioritizing vaccinations for higher-risk groups.

PAHO also emphasized practical risk-reduction steps—such as staying home when sick and seeking medical care for severe symptoms—to limit spread and reduce severe outcomes.
