FDA links Salmonella outbreak to “Super Greens” supplement powder; recall launched

What the FDA says is driving the outbreak investigation

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is investigating a Salmonella outbreak associated with Live it Up-brand Super Greens dietary supplement powder. The agency says infected people reported consuming the product before becoming ill and that the investigation is ongoing, with updates expected as new information emerges.

The FDA’s advisory states that the product under focus is Super Greens powder with expiration dates ranging from 08/2026 to 01/2028, including original and wild berry flavors. The agency notes the supplement is primarily sold online through the company’s website and other major e-commerce platforms.

Illness totals, geography and severity

Based on CDC epidemiologic information cited by FDA, 45 people infected with the outbreak strain have been reported across 21 states, with 12 hospitalizations and no deaths reported at the time of the update. Reported illness onset dates ranged from August 22, 2025, to December 30, 2025.

Salmonella infection commonly causes diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps, typically starting 12 to 72 hours after exposure and lasting four to seven days. The FDA notes that young children, older adults and people with weakened immune systems face higher risk of severe illness.

Recall status and what consumers should do

The FDA recommended that Superfoods, Inc., doing business as Live it Up, recall the affected Super Greens products, and the company agreed to begin a voluntary recall on January 14, 2026. The agency advises consumers and retailers not to eat, sell or serve the specified product and to throw it away or return it to the place of purchase.

The FDA says it is conducting traceback work and sampling to identify the source of contamination, and cautions that additional products could be implicated as the investigation develops.
